Psalm 16

Because of yesterday's post, I thought I would mention Psalm 16, which in my NLT Bible is marked up and down the page with descriptions of who God is according to the chapter. I'd like to share with you what I wrote so maybe you can get an idea of what I meant when I said He is the very essence of goodness. I have highlighted, underlined, or wrote on the side what is mine. I hope it gives you a fresh perspective of this beautiful chapter in the Psalms.

Psalm 16

N       1 Keep me safe, O God,
O               for I have come to you for refuge. Protector
2 I said to the LORD, “You are my Master!
Every good thing I have comes from you.” Provider
D       3 The godly people in the land
              are my true heroes!
S                I take pleasure in them! Hero*
A       4 Troubles multiply for those who chase after other gods.
P               I will not take part in their sacrifices of blood
P                or even speak the names of their gods. Ultimate God
O       5 LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing.
I                You guard all that is mine.

N         6 The land you have given me is a pleasant land.
What a wonderful inheritance! Hope of the future

M        7 I will bless the LORD who guides me;
E                even at night my heart instructs me. Guide/Leader
N         8 I know the LORD is always with me.
T                 I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. Companion
S        9 No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. Our joy
                 My body rests in safety.
Security
10 For you will not leave my soul among the dead
or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.
Savior/Life Giver
11 You will show me the way of life,
granting me the joy of your presence
and the pleasures of living with you forever
. Pleasure

*I see this in two ways. The first being godly people are to be admired because they reflect who God is. We can see these people in the church body. Second, if we admire these people it's because of their relationship with Christ. So pretty much we are admiring Christ in these people, so ultimately God is the one to be admired, or be our hero. Make sense? I hope so...
