Wisdom In A Nutshell

Wisdom is hard to describe other than to say you can only truly grasp it when you obey God. Psalm 111:10 says, "Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever!" I think this verse is more complex than what I can explain or understand on my own as of now, but on the shallow end,  I think the verse is a reminder to seek after God with all our heart, soul, and mind just as we are told to love him in Luke 10:27. Think of it this way....

God is love. Love is great. Love is full of joy. Love is what we all want. Love is so mysterious, though. So intricate. So complex. We enjoy it, but we can never be satisfied with just taking it in. We want to distribute it. We want to give it to others because we enjoy it as well, because love is not selfish. So when we are consumed with love, we are seeking for it more and more. When we are seeking after it, it's going to take all our heart, soul, mind, and strength to capture it.

So seeking after God we are going to ask for his help to love, as he is what defines love. Now look at James 1:5-8:

If you need wisdom, ask your generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.

See this is what I have learned from these past few days. Seek God and you will find. He is not going to laugh at us for asking for help. He is not going to judge us for raising our hands to him to pull us out of the pit. "He will not rebuke you for asking." (vv.5) When we seek after him, he is what I could imagine what the father in the parable of the Prodigal Son reacted when his son came home after pretty much abandoning his family to go live on his own. He welcomed him. He was happy to give him what he needed. He showed him mercy and love.

God is love. God is good. Seek after him and you will find. He is our great God, so don't doubt what he will and can do with you. Have a great day!
