Though We Are Not Faithful, He Is Faithful

I have had a few family and friends come to church with me who were not Christians. After the doors of the church were locked, and we went to go eat, I would ask how they liked the service. A few times I have noticed this was their answer, "It was good... I think when he [the pastor] was talking about faithfulness, it was a good thought." Faithfulness is indeed a good thought. In this world, there is nothing that I can think of that is faithful. Ocean tides can extend themselves into a neighboring town and kill hundreds. The wind fluctuates. Mountains crumble over time. Human beings cannot be trusted.

Yet, we have this one hope-- "if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself." ~ 2 Timothy 2:13

How incredible that we can come to our God knowing he is always faithful. We cannot be upset because he said one thing and did the other. Or the simple fact that he won't take care of us. He will be. He is. Faithful.

I think as human beings, we crave a lot of characteristics that only God possesses. I think that how he draws us in. Faithfulness is the one of those traits. Faithfulness without a blemish of cheating or failing is rare, and impossible to see in this world, except through God. Though we are not faithful as human beings, God is faithful. You wouldn't want to meet a person who is kind one minute, and then cruel the next. Then they go back to be sweet and kind again. It's confusing and after a while you lose trust that the person can care for you. God at the beginning says he cares for us. Not only that, but that he wants us to turn from our sinful ways and take his grace through Jesus Christ as something he wants to bless us with. No strings attached. If we truly want to turn from our sins, we will trust in him to provide us the means of doing what he wants us to do. He is faithful. He is not waiting to strike us for doing the wrong thing. In fact he is waiting for us to turn to him. Because we are the unfaithful.

Today consider this,

Who is faithful in my life?

One day of living and you might realize not everyone of us can be faithful. I fail at being faithful sometimes, whether it's having to cancel on somebody or doing something with myself in mind, and not others around me. When you think about it, faithfulness comes in the form of keeping our friends in our prayers, obeying authority, and even helping a family put food on the table. All require a giving heart. One that is not lost in ones self.

Faithfulness is what I like to think is a desire to be kind and true to the ones we love. We do not walk away because something is too hard to do. We do not ignore their plea for help. And we are always there when needed. That is who God is to us. Faithful.
